The Golden Eagles finished off their hardest week of the year on Saturday as they traveled to Johnstown to take on the Trojans. Unfortunately, they couldn’t pull off the victory losing 63-46 on the road.

Heading into the game the Eagles knew how athletic and quick their opponent was going to be, but what they didn’t account for was their ability to shoot the ball from outside. Johnstown hit 11 threes to Tyrone’s two and that was what separated the two teams.

The game started off very high paced as the Trojans jumped out to a 17- lead after the first.

In the second the Eagles started to click and jumped out to a 6-0 run. The run was ended as Johnstown came back and hit multiple threes to take a 10 point lead into the half.

“Coming out of the half we knew something needed to be done to stop their high paced offense, and it was going to come on the defensive end,” said junior Andrew Ferguson.

The Golden Eagles did just that as they slowed down the game and started playing to Johnstown’s weak spots. The Eagles only scored 10 points in the half but were able to hold the Trojans to just five.

The game was pulled to within 6 points in the fourth, but the Trojans were able to pick their pace back up and pulled away to take the 17 point victory.

“They were hitting shots like crazy. It was their night from three and it wasn’t ours,” said head coach George Gripp about the game.

The Eagles are back in action next Tuesday as they take on the Clearfield Bison at home.
