Senior Alex Weaver put up a team high 15 in his highest scoring output of the year.  He was one of four Tyrone starters in double figures on Friday, leading the way to a 58-43 victory over Mountain League foe Bellefonte.

“Ball movement was key all night. It allowed for me and everyone else on the court to get open looks, and that was what got us the win,” said Weaver on the win.

In the first, Tyrone jumped out to an 18-11 lead. The Eagles were breaking the the press with ease on their way to many two foot shots. Senior Alex Weaver had 8 of his team high 15 in the opening frame.

Coming into the second the Golden Eagles were hoping for the same outcome as the first, but it didn’t go as planned. The Red Raiders backed out of their press and fell back into a 2-3 zone. This slowed down the high powered offense of the Eagles by containing their shooters and not allowing them to run in the open court.

The Eagles were held to just nine points in the second quarter, but got a very strong showing on the defensive side only allowing seven points. Tyrone took a 27-18 lead at the half.

Foul trouble was a problem all night, with all five starters having at least one foul by halftime. Junior Parker Mitchell was sidelined the whole second quarter with three fouls.

“As my good pal Blake Brooks used to say, defense was really the motor out there,” said Mitchell.

The third quarter was a nightmare for the Golden Eagles. Bellefonte came out scoring the first four buckets of the second half, and they all came from drives to the hoop. A timeout was called by interim head coach Travis Anderson to try to stop the run. Unfortunately the Red Raiders still scored 22 points in the third bringing them to within two heading into the fourth.

Up 42-40 heading into the fourth the Eagles knew that they needed to step up if they wanted to come out with the victory. Tyrone responded and outscored Bellefonte 16-3 in the fourth quarter to come away with a 58-43 win. Anderson was really impressed with how his guys stepped up when things got tough down the stretch.

“The way the game was going they could have put their heads down and quit, but they didn’t. They came out stronger and harder than the other team and gutted the win out. This was a great win,” said Anderson.

Tyrone improves to 6-3 on the season and will continue their road streak next week with three away games against West Branch, Bald Eagle, and Penns Valley.
