Eagle Eye: What inspired you to become a teacher?

Ron Wilson: I have always enjoyed learning about new concepts and sharing what I have learned.  It started at a young age in athletics and carried me into my teaching career.

EE: How long have you been teaching?

RW: I have been teaching for 21 years.

EE: Have you always taught at Tyrone? If not, where else?

RW: I started teaching at Juniata Valley, but was only there for ½ year.  I was filling in for a teacher that was on sabbatical. I taught 7th and 9th grade science while I was there.  At the end of that year, I went to Punxsutawney and taught there for two years.  While at Punxsy, I taught astronomy to 6, 7 and 8th grade students.  At the end of that second year a job came open at Tyrone and I came here to teach Earth Science.

EE: What is your favorite memory as a teacher?

RW: There have been too many to pick out just one.  I see something amazing from the kids that I work with just about every day.

EE:If you weren’t teaching right now, what do you think you would have done with your life?

RW: If I weren’t teaching, I think that I would have really enjoyed working as a geologist.

EE: Where did you attend high school?

RW: I graduated from Bellwood.

EE: Where did you attend college?

RW: I attended Penn State for my bachelors degree and I am currently attending California University of Pennsylvania and working on my masters degree.

EE: What’s your favorite book?

RW: I read constantly, but unfortunately I have a really short attention span.  So, most of what I read is very short.  Since this is that case, I really don’t have a favorite book.

EE: What is your favorite sport and sports team?

RW: Wrestling is my favorite sport and I follow Penn State very closely.  I also really enjoy college football and follow Penn State there as well.  I have been a Minnesota Vikings fan (as painful as it has been) since I was very young.  I also watch the Pirates and Penguins in baseball and hockey really often.

EE: What are some of your favorite hobbies?

RW: I really enjoy spending time with my family.  I have a great wife and four awesome kids and like to spend time with them as much as possible.  We go camping often and my entire family are sports fanatics.
