Clearfield Comeback Dooms Eagles

Tyrone’s five-match win streak came to an end Tuesday night with a 44-24 loss to the Clearfield Bisons.

“It was a close match, and our guys wrestled really tough,” said Tyrone Head Coach Quentin Wright “They went out there and they fought hard. They did what I wanted them to do. I’m really proud of their performance. Clearfield’s a tough team, but our guys put on a show for the crowd.”

The match started well with Tyrone junior Korry Walls pinning Clearfield’s Xavier Lutz 1:18 into the bout. Senior Ashton Sipes also pinned Nolan Barr at 1:58.

Sophomore Lukas Walk then won a decision over Ty Aveni by taking him down four times to end the match with a score of 8-2, which tied the meet at 15.

Tyrone junior Reese Wood then pinned Patrick Knepp with a score of 12-5 giving Tyrone a 6 point lead.

Andrew Weaver won 7-2 over Karson Kline, which gave Tyrone a 24-21 lead.

But that’s where Tyrone’s winning streak came to an end when the Bisons got pins at weight 113, 120, 126, 152, 172, 189, 215, and 285.

“It was a devastating loss but I feel like we can redeem ourselves Thursday against Cambria Heights, said senior Jason Barr.
