Because of ongoing mandated COVID restrictions, for the second year in a row Tyrone Area High School will not have a school-sponsored homecoming dance at the high school.

“We’re disappointed that we can’t host a dance this year. It’s a fun event because it’s the first dance of the school year, and it’s been a great fundraiser for the Eagle Eye and the Mock Trial team,” said Mr. Cammarata, who has helped organize the event in the recent past. “But we are hopeful that it will be back next year.”

In the meantime, a group of seniors, with the support of the Cheer Boosters, have organized a non-school-affiliated Homecoming Dance at the Tyrone Armory on Saturday, October 9th from 7-10 pm, which is a week after the homecoming football game, which will be held on Friday, October 1st at Grey Field.

The dance is open to all Tyrone students in 9th-12th grade and guests who are also in high school. A parent permission waiver will be required for all students who attend. The cost of each ticket is $10 and money and waivers will be collected at the door. The money will go towards facility rentals, refreshments, and entertainment.

Many students were happy to hear that a dance will happen, especially with most not having a school dance in years due to the pandemic.

“I’m super excited to have my first high school dance [and] I’m excited to be with my friends,” said sophomore Maddy Whitby.

The juniors have not had a dance since the Snowball during their freshman year.

“I can’t wait for the dance since we haven’t had one in such a long time,” said junior Sage Rumberger.

This is a great opportunity to come out and have a good time with your friends and make a lifetime of memories. Seniors will be able to have a somewhat normal high school experience with a homecoming dance.

Students interested in attending the dance will need a parent waiver form, which will be passed out soon during their advisory period. This form must be completed when they attend the dance along with the $10 admission fee.
