Tyrone followed up their Reliance Bank Holiday tournament win with their worst offensive performances of the season so far in a road loss to rival Central.
While Tyrone reached their defensive goal of keeping Central under 50 points, the Golden Eagles couldn’t seem to buy a bucket in the 46-35 loss.
Coming into the game against Central, Tyrone was averaging over 70 points per game. However, against Central, the Golden Eagles were limited to just 35 total points.
The first quarter started decent for the Eagles with Dravyn Crowell and Sam Crilly both knocking down threes. However, as the game went on the hoop started getting smaller for Tyrone
Tyrone was shut out of the inside game and only scored seven in the first quarter and five points in the second.
The first-half score ended with Central up 23-12.
After halftime, Tyrone still couldn’t get it together offensively and Central kept playing great defense to hold the lead.
Central senior forward Hunter Smith and junior forward Eli Muthler led all scorers with 17 points each. Tyrone’s only double-digit scorer was junior Ashton Walk with 11 points.
The Golden Eagle’s starting lineup was altered with Andrew Escala’s minutes limited after coming back from an ankle injury. Eli Woomer started in Escala’s place and played most of the first quarter.
Unfortunately, Tyrone only plays Central once this season, and will not have a chance for a rematch with a healthy lineup.
“It’s frustrating when we couldn’t get anything to fall all game, our defense needs some work too,” Tyrone leading scorer Ashton Walk said.
