After an upsetting loss to Penn Cambria in the Holiday tournament, Tyrone desperately needed a win to get themselves back on track and stay on top in the Mountain League.

The Eagles did just that on Monday by handing the Clearfield Bison only their second loss of the season, 78-82 in an inter-conference matchup at Tyrone.

Senior Landon DeHaas led the Eagles with 22 points, senior Cortlynd Rhoades added 16 points, junior Ross Gampe scored 14 points, and junior Zach LeGars added 10.

”We had four players that had over 10 points and that’s what made us win the game,” said Gampe.

Tyrone started hot, but so did the Bison. The two teams traded field goals in the first period and Clearfield looked to have a slight edge, but junior Zach LeGars hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer from the corner to tie the game 23-23 at the end of the first quarter.

Tyrone then began to pull away in the second quarter, making the halftime score 41-28 in favor of the Golden Eagles.

Going into the second half, Tyrone came out slow, with Clearfield outscoring Tyrone 17-15.

In the fourth quarter Tyrone outscored Clearfield 20-17 to seal the game.
