5 of 5 stars

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a Survival Horror Point & Click game where you are a security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, from midnight to 6am. That in totally takes about 8 – 9 minutes real time, 4 – 5 minutes for mobile players. The player must not be caught off-guard by the characters. He cannot move from his spot until finishing his shift at 6am.

The game relies on simplistic, and repetitive gameplay to trick the player into thinking nothing is really happening and then they get jump scared. The player has access to an array of cameras covering the facility. Cameras 2B and 4B have blind spots that are directly next to the player, and camera 6 is disabled and only has audio adding to the overall feeling of paranoia and fear. Also, the player has access doors and door lights to aid in seeing the arrival of the menacing machines.

Although the game itself doesn’t have much to talk about, the story behind the game is nightmare inspiring. The player is a man named Mike Schmidt, later revealed in the game. Mike has become a security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Mike’s Predecessor calls him at the beginning of his first night to tell him that the animatronic characters Foxy the Pirate Fox, Chica the Chicken, Bonnie the Bunny, and the infamous Freddy Fazbear, are able to move freely at night because their servo motors will lock up if left off for too long. He mentioned that if a character sees the player it will not recognize it as a human and instead see it as a metal endo-skeleton without a costume. Because that is against the rules the character will forcefully stuff the player into spare Freddy Fazbear suit. It would be fine if the suits didn’t have all the components of being a working animatronic, so death will occur. He also briefly describes that the animatronics are prohibited from free movement during the day because of an incident he called “The Bite of 87’” where someone lost part of their Frontal Lobe and somehow managed to live.

During a call on the fourth night it sounds like he is abducted in the middle of the call and on the fifth night the call in incomprehensible until the words are unscrambled revealing that he may have been killed.

There is a bonus 6th night the player unlocks after completing the original five. if the player completes night 6, a 7th night will be opened to the player. This level is customizable level, so the player can then set the levels of the AI, ranging from 0 – 20. The games developer,  Scott Cawthon, believed it was impossible to defeat night seven with all four AI set to level 20.

Scariest game in years

— Markiplier

Well, many Youtubers have already proved him wrong. As of August 21st 2014, Youtube sensations BigBugz, and Markiplier have been the first two to conquer the inhuman feat. Markiplier even in one of his Five Nights at Freddy’s Lets Play’s labeled it “Scariest Game in Years”.

Ryan Bates of Game Revolution gave the game 4.5 of 5. he stated the game was “ horror was done right” but it was too short lived. The game would”[Reach] ODC – type levels adding to the tense environment.

Many people believe the games Less-Is-More approach with its lack of music and inability to move adds helplessness, and hopelessness that player feels as they progress through increasingly its difficult levels. Jeffrey Matulef, from Eurogamer compared the animatronics to the predatory beings, Weeping Angels, from the mythical world of Dr. Who, because of their inability to move while being observed.

Five nights at Freddy’s is a game full of cutting satire on creepy atmospheres and inter-emotional feelings as you play through the game and it is definitely deserving of a perfect 5 of 5 stars
