Tyrone Wrestlers Come Up Short on Senior Night

Three of the four Tyrone seniors stepped on the home mat for the last time in their high school career as the Tyrone Golden Eagle Wrestling lost 43-31 to the Penns Valley on Thursday, February 1st.

The Golden Eagles started the night off with Kyle Plummer at 170. Plummer was pinned 1:01 into the second period by Penns Valley’s Carter Felker.

Tommy Hicks then pulled off a major decision against Isaac Spotts from Penns Valley. Hicks started off strong and got a takedown then gained a three-point near fall and a two-point near fall. Spotts then gained a penalty point making the score 7-1 at the end of the first period. Hicks deferred then Spotts chose neutral to start off the second period. Hicks took down Spotts and gained another three-point near fall. Hicks was winning 12-1 at the end of the second period and chose top to start the third. Spotts got a reversal late in the third period to make the final score 12-3.

Jack Lewis then pinned Penns Valley’s Caelob Packer in 30 seconds at 195. Tyrone forfeited at 220 which made the team score 12-10 Tyrone. Garrett Lucas from Penns Valley then pinned Dan Peterson in 3:24 at 285.

Hunter Walk lost 18-7 to Baylor Shunk, and Mason Walls pinned Penns Valley’s Justin Darlington in 34 seconds. Tyrone then forfeited at 120, and Isaac Parks pinned Haden Stamm from Penns Valley in 2:37. Noah Sprankle got pinned and Alex Weaver received a forfeit, to make the team score 34-28 Penns Valley.

Brandon Ixtepan won by regular decision over Penns Valley’s Charles Martin. Martin came out strong and took Ixtepan down and gained three near fall points. Ixtepan deferred then Martin chose neutral to start the second period. Ixtepan took down Martin and earned two near fall points. Martin then got a reversal and Ixtepan received a penalty point. The score was 7-5 Martin at the end of the second period. Ixtepan chose neutral for the third period, then got a takedown. martin escaped, but then got taken down again, making the final score 9-8 Ixtepan.

Derrick Harris then lost a close match to Zach Royer from Penns Valley. Royer quickly got a takedown then a three-point near fall. Harris got a reversal, and Royer escaped, just to have Harris take him down again. Royer deferred then Harris chose down in the beginning of the second period. Harris got a reversal, which was quickly followed by a reversal from Royer. Royer then got three near fall points. Harris then got a reversal, which was followed again by a reversal from Royer, making the score 13-8 Royer. Royer chose down at the start of the third. Harris earned three near fall points, then Royer got a reversal. Harris escaped and got another takedown, making the final score 15-14 Royer.

Cameron Brandt then got pinned by Penns Valley’s Abraham Allebach, making the final team score43-31 Penns Valley
