Tyrone Girls Soccer Bounces Back From 2 Conference Losses to Down Tussey 6-1

This week was a tough one for the Tyrone Girls Soccer team. Coming off a 5-2 win against West Branch last Saturday, the Lady Eagle lost two conference matches to drop to 1-3 in Mountain League Conference play.

Their grueling 3-game week concluded with a 6-1 rebound win over Tussey Mountain on Saturday.

TYRONE 1 HUNTINGDON 6

Last Monday’s game at Huntingdon’s Detwiler Field had quite the peculiar beginning. After Tyrone’s bus arrive a half an hour late, the game was further delayed due to a missing official. Once the match finally commenced, however, Huntingdon shot out to an early 4-0 lead in the first half.

The Bearcats found the back of the net again at the start of the second half with an admittedly impressive header to send the ball past Tyrone’s keeper. Riley D’Angelo slipped a ball by Huntingdon’s keeper, but that was the extent of Tyrone’s comeback. One more goal from Huntington cemented their 6-1 victory.

TYRONE 2 CLEARFIELD 3

Once again an absent official delayed the start of Tyrone’s match against Clearfield on Wednesday; the game was played with one official and two parents acting as linesmen.

Clearfield appeared to burst out into a 1-0 lead seconds after kickoff, though the player was later ruled offside and the goal was waved off. Then just 4 minutes later Tyrone’s Elina Lure slipped a ball through the Bison back line and D’Angelo was able to finish it off, giving Tyrone a 1-0 lead that they held until the half.

Clearfield mounted a comeback in the second half, with Haley Moore scoring 15 minutes into the second half. Tyrone answered with a goal from sophomore Aaryanna Wright, but with just 7 minutes left Clearfield struck again. Tyrone was unable to find an answer this time and dropped its second match of the week.

TYRONE 6 TUSSEY MOUNTAIN 1

Tyrone was able to level its record to 3-3 when they traveled to Tussey Mountain on Saturday.

Ten minutes in, D’Angelo found Audrey Bowser to open up the bombardment of scoring from Tyrone. Minutes later, freshman Mia Kosoglow scored her first varsity goal off an assist from Bowser. With only 7 minutes to go in the first half, Bowser returned the favor to D’Angelo, dishing a ball through Tussey’s back line that D’Angelo was able to finish.

In the second half, Kosoglow was able to notch her first career assist as well, serving a ball to D’Angelo, who was able to complete her second hat trick of the season off an assist from junior Chloe Makdad with 15 minutes to go in the game. Bowser was also able to score again minutes after D’Angelo. Tussey Mountain’s McKenna Curman lofted a ball over Tyrone’s Kelsey Johnson, just barely denying Johnson of her second career shutout. That was all the closer Tussey would get to catching Tyrone, who won the game 6-1.

Tyrone is beginning a 5-game home stand this week with two conference matches against Bellefonte and Bald Eagle on Tuesday and Thursday. They wrap up the week with a Saturday match against Hollidaysburg.
