It’s the scariest day of the year, the day the ghosts and goblins are roaming.  The day most people dread, but others love. IT’S HALLOWEEN!

Of course, ghost hunting is one of the most popular things to do on Halloween.

One very creepy place is in Lewistown, only an hour drive from Tyrone.

Irvin’s Hill is one of the scariest place I have even been.  I’ve seen some things there with my own eyes that I cannot explain.

All I can say is it was one of the creepiest things I have ever experienced.

Irvin’s Hill is located about 15 miles south of Lewistown.  To get there make a right turn off of Route 220 on to River Road.  Drive past miles of dark corn fields to a fork in the road.  The right fork goes toward Mount Union and the left heads toward Irvin Hill.  Take the left, and climb the ridge to the top and you will soon enter the world of spooks.  An old rock fence is on the right.  Next is an old family cemetery.   In about a mile an old rusty road sign marks Irvin’s Hill and at the end is a big open field.  This is where the fun begins.

The story began in 1965 at the old farm.  A man was out tending to his cows when he thought he smelled smoke.  He didn’t think anything of it until he walked outside to get lunch. The man then saw his home ablaze with his wife, two boys and his daughter inside. He ran into the house and tried to save them, but the house collapsed before he could make it inside.

Rumor has it the night after the fire he walked across the field with his light and his old 30-30 rifle.  He walked into the woods and was never seen again.

In the 1990 the land was put up for sale.  The realtors found an old gun laying under a log next to a skull and bones.  The skull had a hole in it.

Rumor has it at midnight the apparition of the farmer can sometimes be seen walking across the field carrying his light.

I’ve been there five times myself.  The first three times were uneventful but the fourth time I saw what I can only imagine was the ghost of Irvin’s Hill.

As I sat in the car and watched I saw a light moving across the field, entering the woods.  I thought nothing of it until the next week I returned and  saw it again.  The light slowly moving across the field floating like someone was holding until it reached the woods and just went away.

I don’t know what it was, all I can say is it was one of the creepiest things I have ever experienced.
