Tyrone Caps Off Season With Six Game Losing Streak, Lose 2-1 to Penns Valley

Tyrone’s loss to Penns Valley ends their regular season with a six game losing streak and seven games without a win. Tyrone once again struggled mightly on offense and created few scoring opportunities. However Tyrone’s defense, led by Senior Ethan Vipond, were able to keep the Penns Valley lead from growing.

We never stepped to ball and we didn’t play aggressive enough. I’m not sure what the issue is but we need to change it before playoffs

— Head Coach Nick Miller

Tyrone scored within the first minutes of the game on a Corey Johnston solo run with a shot that drilled into the corner. However after this burst of offense the Golden Eagles struggled to score the rest of the game.

Penns Valley corrected their errors quickly though and minutes later equalized with a solo run goal after a Tyrone defensive error. The half ended with the score tied at 1-1 but Penns Valley clearly played better soccer than the Golden Eagles. Tyrone failed to convert on the few offensive chances they received and looked defeated heading into half time.

Penns Valley’s second goal game came half way into the second half. The Rams quickly diced up Tyrone with excellent passing and a shot outside the 18 ended the Golden Eagle’s hope to gain the lead. Tyrone struggled the remainder of the game to score. However Tyrone played just enough defense to stop the Ram’s lead from growing. Tyrone finished the game with their sixth loss in a row ending their season with a 6-6-2 record in the mountain league and 6-10-2 overall.
