Tyrone Boys Soccer Starts Season With a Bang

After dropping the last seven games of the 2017 season, the Golden Eagles were determined to start on a high note against the Clearfield Bison. The team delivered in all phases of the game with a 5-1 win.

“It was a good fight and we didn’t give up,” said Bellwood junior keeper Alex Roberts.

Clearfield got off to a fast start, striking first in the opening minute of the game.

Our offense scored efficiently and our defense stopped some big plays.

However, that would be the only goal allowed by the Tyrone defense in the match.  Roberts stepped up big, making 18 stops to keep Tyrone in the game.

Bellwood junior Corey Johnston was put on the spot for the first Tyrone goal with a penalty kick that rocketed into the bottom corner of the goal, tying the game 1-1.

Senior Andrew Pearson shined bright, taking off past the Clearfield defense, scoring back to back goals to put the Eagles up 2-1.

“We all came into the season focused mentality and worked hard during practice,” said Pearson.

Tyrone continued onto the second half with a 3-1 lead.

“Once the first game jitters were out we showed good ball movement and good team chemistry,” said sophomore Mason Thomas.

Thomas scored his first varsity goal in the second half on a cross from Bellwood senior Owen Shaulis.

“Our offense scored efficiently and our defense stopped some big plays” said Tyrone senior and captain Nick Kosko.

Tyrone defense dominated the Bison, allowing no goals after the opening minute of the game.

The Eagle’s final goal of the game came late in the second half as Johnston dribbled up the field and shot right from outside of the goalie box. The shot was saved, but Clearfield’s keeper could not hold onto the ball and Pearson found himself directly in front of the goal with an easy rebound, which he placed  into the back of the net for the game’s final goal.
