Tyrone Boys extend win streak to three
Tyrone improves to 3-1 with a win over the Bearcats.
Tyrone took a ten point lead into the fourth quarter at Huntingdon on Wednesday, but went cold on the foul line at the same time Huntington got hot from beyond the arc, allowing Huntingdon to close the gap to within two. With less than one second left the Bearcats had the ball under their own basket, but the Huntingdon was unable to inbound the ball and the Eagle won 86-84.
The Bearcats played very physical early on, something the Eagles aren’t use to. The game went back and forth in the first quarter with both teams scoring 14 points.
Anthony Politza was responsible for seven of the Eagles 14 points in the first quarter. Politza totaled 22 points, 16 from down low and 6-9 at the foul line.
“Playing in Huntingdon is always tough and any lead we got was easily extinguished because of their three point shooting, but we made just enough foul shots to pull out the game,” said Politza.
Alex Weaver got red hot in the first half, scoring 13 straight points, and ended up with 18 total. As a result the Eagles went into half time with a one point lead, 42-41.
“We really hung in there as a team and got a great win,” said Weaver.
The game was really decided in the second half. Hunting don outscored Tyrone 17- 15 in the third quarter and played tough Defense in the 4th but that wasn’t enough to stop Tyrone.
Tyrone won the fourth quarter 29-26, and got the 86-84 victory.
“Credit Huntingdon, they made us play their style of basketball tonight. We were very fortunate to pull out the win,” said Head Coach George Gripp.
The Eagles have a home Mountain League conference game against Clearfield on Friday. Tip off is at 7:00 pm.
