The 2-0 Golden Eagles are coming off solid performances in which they dominated Bellwood and Central. This week they hope to keep it rolling at home against the Bishop Carroll Huskies. ‘]

While Carroll might not be as highly touted as the Blue Devils or Dragons, they should not be overlooked, according to Tyrone Head coach Jason Wilson.

It is great to see the atmosphere coming back to Tyrone football. These players are really feeding off of it and playing with excitement.

“They will not be a less challenging opponent, they are very athletic and have an opportunity to prove themselves to the Mountain League. This is a statement game for them that we must be prepared for,” said Wilson, “The key [for us] is to stay focused on our goal. And the next step to achieving that goal is Bishop Carroll.”

Bishop Carroll has a very run oriented offense, having only attempted seven passes in their first two games combined.

They have a three headed rushing attack, led by mobile junior quarterback Jake Zazvrskey with 210 yards on the ground in their first two games. Senior Jarrett Grove has 169 yards and senior Trevor Hogue has rushed for 137 yards so far this season.

Carroll opened their 2018 season on a high note with a 19-13 overtime win against West Virginia’s East Hardy Cougars.

In the overtime win, BC put up 366 yards of total offense. Jake Zazvrskey gained 134 yards on the ground on the while teammate Trevor Hogue had 115 total yards.

“[We will need to] stop the running game and contain the quarterback,” said Tyrone Head Coach Jason Wilson.

In week two the Huskies traveled to Canton, Ohio and were defeated 35-6 by the East Canton HornetsIn that contest, Zazvrskey completed only one of his five pass attempts but rushed for 72 yards and scored the Huskies only touchdown.

The Huskies will be looking to bounce back this week against the Golden Eagles and give them a tough football game.

Defensively, the Huskies have given up 48 points in two games, so Tyrone hopes to be able to move the ball against the Huskies defense. After rushing for 200 yards against Central and bringing in one touchdown, senior Zac Albright is excited and hopes to put up big numbers yet again.

But the key for Tyrone is their defense.

Coming off of a big game against Central with sophomore Damon Gripp’s four interceptions including a pick six, the team looks to keep the intensity high on the defensive side of the ball.

The home field might be another big advantage for the Eagles in this contest.

The Huskies have put quite a few miles on the team bus in the first two weeks of the season, traveling to West Virginia and Ohio. While the trip to Tyrone is a lot closer for the Ebensburg school,  Gray Field is not an easy place to play and Wilson credits the Tyrone fans for playing a big part in his team’s fast start.

Wilson was especially impressed by the fans willingness to stay with the team during the hour long lightning delay last week at Central.

“I would like to give a thank you to the band, the fans, the student section, and everyone else that stuck out the delay last week,” said Wilson, “It is great to see the atmosphere coming back to Tyrone football. These players are really feeding off of it and playing with excitement.”

The Huskies and the Golden Eagles will kickoff this Friday night at 7:00 pm at Gray Field in Tyrone.
