The Lady Eagles Tear It Up in Penns Valley Gym. Literally.

The Lady Eagles Volleyball Team scored a huge victory over their Mountain League rival Penns Valley Rams, and even took a piece of the Penns Valley gym down in the process.

Tyrone lost the first set 13-25, won the second game  25-13,  won the third game 25-20, and won the last game 25-18.

A total of 31 kills were earned during the games. Tyrone’s seniors combined for 23 of those kills. Shaniah Lowery had 5, Maddie Viet had 7, and Alexis Cannistraci had 11.

It was hilarious. I mean how often do you get to go to another school, win, and come home to tell everyone that you broke their gym?

Helping with the win, 17 aces were earned. Lea Crofcheck and Torrie Foy both had 5 aces. Brianna Foy had 4, Emily Fusco had 2 and, Alexis Cannistraci with 1.

During the last set as the girls were ahead 8-5.  A Penns Valley serve hit junior Torrie Foy’s arms so hard that the ball went straight up and hit an air vent on the gym’s ceiling.  Maddie Veit was there to play the ball, but had to duck out of the way because the air vent dislodged and was swinging through the air, hanging only by a thin chain.

“I saw it hit it and I was right there to play the ball, but then I saw the air vent start to fall and swing, so I had to move out of the way,” said Viet.

The referees determined that it was too dangerous to play with the vent cover hanging down, so they cleared the court until the cover could be removed.

The game was delayed for 15-20 minutes while the custodians removed the dangling vent cover.

“It was hilarious. I mean how often do you get to go to another school, win, and come home to tell everyone that you broke their gym?” said Foy.

After it was fixed, the Lady Eagles got back on the court and brought home a victory.
