Nominations open for Tyrone Distinguished Alumni Class of 2015

Nominations for the award will be accepted until May 1, 2015.

Have you noticed the photos lining the upper wall in the Tyrone High auditorium lobby?

Most students and visitors have seen them, but unfortunately many do not know who these men and women are or why their photos hang in the school.

These individuals are all recipients of the Tyrone Area School District Distinguished Alumni Award.

The award was created in 2002 to recognize alumni who once walked the halls of Tyrone Area High School and have gone on to remarkable careers and accomplishments in their chosen professions and communities.

In the past thirteen years, there have been a total of twenty-seven recipients.

“The Distinguished Alumni Award is a great opportunity to recognize those Tyrone Area School District graduates who have excelled in their careers, as well as contributed to their communities,” said Tyrone Superintendent Ms. Cathy Harlow.

Throughout the years the award has been given to eight educators, three physicians, two veterinarians, two politicians, two military officers, two businessmen, a monsignor, an earth scientist, an accountant, a police officer, an engineer, an architect, a dairy farmer, and a psychologist.

All the Distinguished Alumni have been very active in Tyrone or their current communities. They have started numerous programs, many involving youth, or made generous donations to their towns.

This year the list of honorees will grow.  Nominations are now being accepted for the Tyrone Distinguished Alumni Class of 2015.

A committee of anonymous judges, one graduate from each decade since 1940, will evaluate all nominations and choose the award winners.

Honorees are invited to an Alumni Award Weekend that includes meeting with local officials, participation in a school assembly and public recognition at a home football game. The weekend ends with a banquet for the award winners, family members, friends and guests.
