Seniors Go Out on Top

Senior Brooke Welsh versus Hollidaysburg

Led by the freshman duo of Stephanie Ramsey and Jaida Parker, alongside senior sharpshooter Sydney Shaw, who scored 13 on her final regular season game at home, Tyrone secured a 55-47 upset victory over 5A Hollidaysburg on Senior Night.

The Lady Eagles led the entire game but Hollidaysburg refused to go away quietly. As soon as it looked like Tyrone might pull away, the Golden Tigers would make the game interesting again.

“It felt amazing to end the regular season with a win especially on senior night. Everyone played with great energy and as a team. That’s exactly what we need going into playoffs,” said senior Sydney Shaw.

On the heel of the senior night festivities, Tyrone wore their emotions on their sleeve in the first quarter. The Lady Eagles jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The score after the first was 13-7 Lady Eagles.

In the second, Hollidaysburg doubled their first quarter score, but Tyrone was not leaving any room for doubt as they matched Hollidaysburg’s total.  The Lady Eagles went into the locker room leading 27-21.

In the third quarter Hollidaysburg climbed back by knocking down almost every shot while holding Tyrone to 10 points.  In the last minute of the quarter Hollidaysburg pulled within 4, trailing 37-33, but sophomore Shannon Shaw hit a three from the quarter giving Tyrone a 6 point, 40-33 lead at the end of the third.

The Lady carried the momentum from the last second shot to end the third into the fourth as they looked to send their seniors off on top. Once again Hollidaysburg cut Tyrone’s lead to 7 by freshman Stephanie Ramsey hit her free throws to ice the game.

With the win the Lady Eagles finish the regular season with a 17-5 record. Tyrone also secured the 2nd seed in the District 6 Class 3A playoffs. Tyrone will play their first game next Thursday at home against the winner of United and Westmont Hilltop.
