Playoff Preview: Lady Eagles vs. Central

Finishing with a 21-1 record, the Tyrone Lady Eagles ended their regular season with impressive numbers with the only loss of the season in the second game of the year to the Hollidaysburg Lady Tigers, who the Eagles then defeated last Thursday.

The Lady Eagles stacked up impressive wins over tough teams including Punxsutawney, Northumberland Christian, and Mercyhurst Prep.

Looking forward, the Lady Eagles enter the first round of playoffs this Friday, February 25th at home against Central.

Central is hot right now, but the Lady Eagles have confidence as they previously beat them in the Reliance Bank Holiday tournament in December.

With this win, the Lady Eagles are guaranteed to move on to the PIAA State Tournament.

If the Eagles win on Friday, they will enter the District Championship game against either Central Cambria or Bedford.

Last year, the Eagles beat Bedford in the same championship game for their first district title in nearly 30 years.

The ultimate goal for the Lady Eagles is to win a state championship. The PIAA 4A bracket is challenging this year, including Villa Maria, Archbishop Wood, Delone Catholic, and Blackhawk.

Archbishop Wood is the defending 4A State Champions sitting at a current record of 17-6. Delone Catholic, 22-1, and Villa Maria, 18-2, both defeated the Lady Eagles last year and are having impressive seasons.

Coming from the WPIAL, Blackhawk, a public school similar to Tyrone, is sitting at 21-0 and is ranked as the #1 seed going into the WPIAL tournament.

The last two years proved impressive for the Lady Eagles, with two runs to the “Elite Eight”.

This year, however, the Eagles are hoping to surpass that bridge and keep the ball rolling all the way to a sweet victory in Hershey.
