Movie Review: Arrival
Arrival follows the story of Dr. Louise Banks (Amy Adams), a linguistics professor, as she and Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner), as well as the governments of the rest of the world tries to figure out how to communicate with extraterrestrial creatures that came in 12 different ships, as well as figure out who they are and what their purpose on Earth is. Their task is awfully difficult as they can only make sounds similar to those of whales, as well as being able to make sentences in the form of circles with strange markings. The task becomes even more difficult as the tensions become tighten as the different countries begin to delve deeper and deeper.
All throughout the movie, Dr. Louise Banks repeatedly has flashbacks of being with her child, anywhere from being at a lake with her, to witnessing her dying of cancer.
It follows a very solid plot and will mess with your mind in a way similar to Inception or Interstellar. Arrival is not drawn out or too short, and it creates a perfect environment to intrigue as well as confuse you. My only problem with the movie are that there are questions left unanswered that you really have to think about.
I recommend this movie to anyone interested in Sci-Fi or suspense movies. If you do decide to see Arrival, I recommend you pay attention to every detail possible, as it will make everything clear in the end.
I give the film a 9/10.
