Milestone reached by Swogger at Central game

Jordyn Swogger goes up for the 3-point shot that nets her 1000 career points.

Last night senior Jordyn Swogger joined a very elite club by scoring her 1,000 career point in varsity girls basketball.

During one of the toughest games of the season against Central, Swogger hit her 1,000 on a three pointer from the right wing with 1:52 left in the 3rd quarter.

But rather than celebrating her personal achievement, Swogger was just happy that her Eagles pulled off a 59-53 victory.

“It means a lot, and I was definitely hoping that I would get it tonight because this was such a big game,” said Swogger, “but this was a big win. I’m just glad we got the win. That’s all that matters.”

Swogger became the second player to score 1,000 points during head coach Luke Rhoades’ eight-year coaching career. TAHS Alum Nicole Gripp scored her 1,000th point just last season.

“Mr. Rhoades has only had one other 1,000-point scorer,” said Swogger, “I was hoping that I could get it for him. He’s such a great coach.”

Swogger is also a Class AA state qualifier in two sprinting events in track, the sport she plans to pursue in college.

After the game Rhoades said that he was very fortunate to have coached Swogger during her high school basketball career.

“She’s a true competitor, and she’s worked very hard,” said Rhoades, “She wants to win in every aspect of the world, and that’s very special.”

Swogger scored a total of 18 points during the contest, while freshman Kasey Engle had a game-high 22 points. Senior Emily Iuzzolino added 12.

After the win, the girls’ record improved to 13-4 overall, and 9-1 in the Mountain League.

“I was worried about whether we could overcome some adversity, but this was a good sign tonight,” Rhoades stated.  “We got behind several times, but we kept battling back.”

By the girls pulling out a win against their league rival, and by a huge personal achievement, Swogger could not have been more thrilled.

“We expected a rough game tonight, and it was really close,” said Swogger, “but we worked hard enough to be able to stay on top in the Mountain League.”
