LaRosa Sets Career Goals Record in 6-1 Win Over Huntingdon

It was a historic night for Tyrone girls’ soccer at home against Huntingdon last week. Senior Chloe LaRosa scored five goals and broke the school record for most career goals in a 6-1 win over Huntingdon.

It was an awesome feeling that was shared with the best team. It wouldn’t have been possible without my teammates and I couldn’t be more thankful.

LaRosa wasted no time breaking the record, scoring her 77th career goal only 1:29 seconds into the game off a throw-in from sophomore Briley Campbell. The ball deflected off a defender onto LaRosa’s foot. She cut left inside the defender and was one on one with the keeper. The keeper made an initial save but it rolled past her. LaRosa stayed with the play and buried it into the open net for her 77th career goal.

The previous record holder was Bellwood’s Riley D’Angelo with 76 goals. LaRosa also broke the record for career goals by a Tyrone player, held by Carrie Vance at 75 goals.

The record was especially meaningful for LaRosa because she missed the majority of last season with a knee injury and probably would have broken the record last year if not for the injury.

“It was an awesome feeling that was shared with the best team,” said LaRosa, “It wouldn’t have been possible without my teammates and I couldn’t be more thankful. It was an amazing way to come back from a tough injury.”

LaRosa had a monster game against Huntingdon, scoring five more goals. Two of her goals were assisted by senior Eliza Vance while the rest were unassisted.

“Chloe has been a special player ever since her freshman year. She has led us with her goal-scoring but has also grown into a true leader in every aspect. She sets the tone in off-season training and in practice. She is someone all the players look up to and respect,” said Tyrone Head Coach Mike Sparacino.

Vance also added a goal for the Lady Eagles and was assisted by LaRosa. Senior Rayann Walls and freshman Hailey Loupe combined to make 7 saves in the win.

“Chloe is one of the best players I have ever had the pleasure of coaching. Her passion and love of the game is infectious. She has inspired everyone around her to be at their best. It is rare to see that in a young person. I am very excited to see her take the next step in her career. No matter what life puts in her path, I know she is going to attack it with the same intensity as she does on the field. As the records show, there is very little that stops her when she is determined,” said Sparacino.
