To the Wolves: Lady Eagles Downed by West Shamokin in Playoff Loss

The 2017 Tyrone girls volleyball season came to an end with a first-round playoff loss to the West Shamokin Wolves on Monday, October 30.

Despite losing 3-0, the game scores were all close, with the Golden Eagles falling 25-17, 25-21, and 25-16.

The Wolves had an advantage with size and experience.

We were actually pretty good at slowing them down on the outside. But the middle killed us. We just weren’t used to it.

— Head coach Mike Kraft

“They have a little more experience than us,” Head Coach, Mike Kraft said. “We started three freshmen and two sophomores.”

The Lady Eagles were up in the first set by a score of 12-10. They sadly lost the first set by a score of 25-21. The Lady Eagles stayed with the Wolves throughout the first and second set.

Senior Lea Crofcheck led the team with 11 kills, 3 blocks, and 5 digs.

The last set ended with a score of 25-16.

“They ran the middle at us,” Kraft said. “Not that we couldn’t stop it; but it’s not something we saw all year. Most of the teams we played were more outside sets-oriented. We were actually pretty good at slowing them down on the outside. But the middle killed us. We just weren’t used to it.”

Senior Emily Fusco and sophomore Brianna Foy each had 3 kills. Foy contributed with 2 aces and 3 digs. Fusco also added 6 digs.

The game was the last for Lady Eagle seniors Emily Fusco, Lea Crofcheck, and Tori Foy.

“As captains, Fusco, Crofcheck and even Foy stepped in at moments. They did a heck of a job for us. They’ve led this team through thick and through thin. We’ve had our ups and downs, but they never quit, they never died, they never gave up. And I think that’s a tribute to how we play,” Kraft said.
