Lady Eagles Fall Hard to Undefeated Lady Marauders

The Tyrone Lady Eagles faced a challenging game against the undefeated Bishop Guilfoyle Lady Marauders on January 12, 2024.

From the outset, the Lady Eagles displayed high energy, but the Bishop Guilfoyle Lady Marauders scored nine points within the first three minutes, establishing a quick 9-0 lead.

Sophomore guard Alayna Woomer broke the ice for the Lady Eagles, sinking two free throws. Woomer led all Tyrone scorers with 10 points in the game.

Despite the Lady Eagles’ solid defense that minimized drives, the Lady Marauders countered with accurate shots and effective rebounding, finishing the first quarter with a nine-point lead, 19-10.

Entering the second quarter, the Lady Eagles maintained their defensive efforts, securing defensive rebounds and narrowing the gap. Sophomore forward Alayna Greene contributed two crucial points, reducing the deficit to seven.

However, that was as close as the Lady Eagles would get. Aggressive defense and physical play characterized the Lady Marauders’ approach, widening the gap by the end of the second quarter to 35-15.

Undeterred, the Lady Eagles entered the second half with determination, working the ball on offense and capitalizing on opportunities in the paint. Alayna Greene’s layup helped the Lady Eagles, but Bishop Guilfoyle maintained their scoring momentum.

Despite the Lady Marauders’ continued scoring, they found themselves fouling on multiple occasions. Both teams fiercely contested rebounds on both ends of the court.

The third quarter ended with the Lady Marauders leading 53-20, showcasing their dominance with a 33-point advantage.

The Lady Eagles persevered in the fourth quarter, with Woomer making some notable plays. However, the Lady Marauders’ robust defense countered their efforts, and the Lady Eagles struggled with fouls.

BG freshman Morgan Ruggery led all scorers with 22 points.

The game concluded with a final score of 68-24, securing another victory for the undefeated Lady Marauders. The Lady Eagles dropped to 2-10 overall.
