Hurricane Sandy Affects Central Pennsylvania

Hurricane Sandy affected people along the east coast especially in the New York and New Jersey area. The storm caused nearly sixty-billion dollars worth of damage. It had winds up to 115 miles per hour. It killed two hundred and nine people and left millions without homes or power. It didn’t just hit the coast though, it also hit central Pennsylvania.

Sarah Ciampoli was one person affected by the storm. She lives on Gypsy Camp Hollow Road. “To help the time go by we got our children and just played with play-doh, and played hide and go seek, and built towers of pillows,” says Sarah.” Part of her roof was blown off and caused water damage in the living room ceiling.

Sarah said. “The whole cost of the damage was $6,000, but when I saw what happened to New York and New Jersey I feel kind of lucky.”

Sandra Mitchell, who lives near Tuckahoe Park in  Altoona she lost power for twenty-four hours. “During the day we just went to Slinky Action Zone to stay warm because our house had no heat,” said Sandra.

Aleic Hunter lives in Decker Hollow he said he was hit bad and that he had lost power for 12 hours. “Since we lost power I just went to some friends house and just hung out there,” said Hunter.
