Home Crowd Sees Ramsey Hit 1,000

Tyrone senior Stephanie Ramsey earned membership in Tyrone’s elite “1000 Point Club” on Saturday and it could not have been a more perfect night for her to hit the milestone.  Ramsey did it in front of a big home crowd, with many of her family and friends in attendance, and her team cruised to a 59-41 victory over perennial state powerhouse Mercyhurst Prep.

The 1000 point shot came on a three-pointer early in the third quarter. Ramsey received the ball on a pass up the court from Emma Getz, she then passed to Jaida Parker inside the perimeter, and Parker kicked the ball back to Ramsey in the corner for the shot.

This is a great personal accomplishment, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates.

A Mercyhurst defender ran to Ramsey but was unable to block the shot. Fittingly, the shot was nothing short of beautiful, with a perfect swish.

“This is a great personal accomplishment, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. A lot of hard work went into achieving this, but without the constant support from my teammates, coaches, and family, I wouldn’t have been able to reach this milestone,” said Ramsey after the game.

After Ramsey’s record-breaking three, the Eagles stopped the game for a brief celebration with her teammates, Coach Rhoades, and her parents, Amy Ramsey and Assistant Coach Steve Ramsey.

“When I made the shot, I didn’t really process what happened honestly. It wasn’t until after the game that it hit me. Seeing my teammates and family’s reactions really impacted me,” said Ramsey.

The game then resumed and the Eagles claimed the 59-41 win.  Ramsey scored 16 points along with junior Kayelin Gibbons to lead the team in scoring.  The Eagles are 16-1, and on a hot streak.

Stephanie works very hard every single time she is in the gym.  Hitting this mark is a direct reflection of that hard work, dedication, and commitment

Ramsey joins teammate and fellow senior Jadia Parker on Tyrone’s list of 1,000 point scorers. Having two 1,000 point scorers on the same team is rare and a testament to how good Tyrone girls basketball has been over the past few seasons, due in large part to the contributions of Parker and Ramsey.

Parker and Ramsey are the 15th and 16th players in Tyrone Lady Eagles team history to hit the 1,000 point mark.

“I’ve been playing with Steph since fourth grade and we grew up playing the game together. I’m super proud of her and this huge accomplishment. I am so excited to see what the future holds for her because I know that whatever she does, she will succeed tremendously,” said Parker.

After the game, Tyrone Lady Eagles Head Coach Luke Rhoades was very complimentary of Ramsey’s dedication and commitment to her team.

“Stephanie works very hard every single time she is in the gym.  Hitting this mark is a direct reflection of that hard work, dedication, and commitment,” said Rhoades.
