Golden Eagles Fall for the First Time in 2019

The Golden Eagles perfect season came to a close Thursday as they fell at the hands of Mountain League opponent Bellefonte in a rematch of the season opener. This game could not have been more different from the first meeting.

Tyrone’s pitching kept the game competitive for most of the game. Sophomore Rodney Shultz pitched a solid 6 innings allowing 3 runs on only 3 hits. The Golden Eagle offense failed to give Shultz any run support so he took the loss on the night.

Bellefonte jumped on Shultz early as they scored 2 runs in the first inning on some questionable calls by the officiating crew. Shultz was able to shut down the Red Raiders for the next few innings until the 4th inning when they added one more run.

The great performance by Shultz was squandered by Tyrone’s ability to score. They were held silent for most of the night they only managed 4 hits on the night with two of them coming off the bat of Aidan Coleman.

Bellefonte added 2 more runs in the top of the 7th inning taking a 5-0 lead over the Golden Eagles. With the reality that their perfect season would be coming to a close Tyrone made one final push to put some runs on the board.

Andrew Pearson and Aiden Coleman reached base on hits but Tyrone was unable to get them around to score. With their first loss of the year Tyrone’s record moves to 10-1 on the season.
