Golden Eagles Comeback to Down Red Raiders

The Golden Eagles baseball team opened up the season with a win against one of the toughest opponents on their schedule, the Bellefonte Red Raiders.

Behind the combined pitching performances of Kevin Lehner and Rodney Shultz and the bat of Kevin Lehner, the Golden Eagles left Bellefonte with a 4-3 victory.

Bellefonte jumped out to a early lead in the top of the first inning as they scored 2 runs off of Lehner. They added another run in the third giving them more cushion and they led the Golden Eagles 3-0 after two innings.

The combined pitching of Lehner and Shultz shut out the Bellefonte offense the rest of the way opening the doors for a Tyrone comeback. Tyrone cut into Bellefonte’s lead in the top of the third on a deep drive off the bat of Kevin drove in one run.

Both teams pitching staffs remained perfect until the top of the sixth inning as Tyrone got the bats rolling. Tyrone scored their first run of the inning as a single into right off the bat of Rodney Shultz drove in Bryce Hunter cutting Bellefonte’s lead to one run, 3-2.

Tyrone got the winning hit when Kevin Lehner drove in two more runs later in that same inning giving Tyrone a 4-3 lead which proved enough to win the game.

With the victory Tyrone starts the season 1-0, they look to keep rolling as they travel to Penns Valley on Thursday looking to improve to 2-0 on the season and in the Mountain League.
