The girls’ soccer team went 1-1 on the week moved to 2-8 on the season after traveling to Penns Valley and Phillipsburg last week.

Penns Valley 4 Tyrone 2

Stifling heat and defensive breakdowns kept Tyrone from victory when they traveled to Penns Valley on Monday. Penns Valley opened the scoring 5 minutes into the game and left Tyrone with a 3-goal deficit nearing the end of the half.

Not to be deterred, Junior Aaryanna Wright managed to earn Tyrone a corner kick with only a minute left to go in the first half. Freshman Kendall Markley found the end of Riley D’Angelo’s service and scored, making it 3-1 in favor of the Lady Rams heading into halftime.

Tyrone continued their season trend of a stronger second half and held their host scoreless until the Ram’s Hannah Montminy took advantage of a brief defensive lapse nearing the end of the half to score. Again, with seconds remaining, Tyrone scored when D’Angelo converted in the final minute

Unfortunately, Tyrone’s comeback came too late, and Penns Valley came away with the 4-2 win.

Tyrone 6 PO 4

Tyrone entered Wednesday’s match hungry for their first win since their season opener against the Mounties. The Golden Eagles came out of the gate strong, with D’Angelo converting on a pass from Elina Lure less than a minute into the game. D’Angelo would score again 9 minutes into the game off a pass from Kendall Markley. Phillipsburg briefly succeeded in slowing Tyrone’s attack when Jordan Day launched a rocket past Tyrone keeper Kelsey Johnson to make it 2-1 midway through the half.

Nearing the end of the half, Maqqel Kosoglow laid a ball off to Markley, who would make it 3-1 Tyrone. With less than a minute remaining, D’Angelo would once again score on a pass from Lure, giving her a hattrick and Tyrone a 4-1 lead heading into the half.

About ten minutes into the second half, Aaryanna Wright, assisted by D’Angelo, scored, and Markley would find the back of the net minutes later to make it 6-1 Tyrone. The Mounties Loryn Hughes found a way to score with 10 minutes left in the game, and Day would strike twice more to give her a hattrick on the day. Phillipsburg couldn’t make anything more of their comeback, and Tyrone pulled out the 6-4 victory.
