Game Review: Jak 3

Naughty Dog puts a end to the series.

5 out of 5 stars

Naughty Dog’s final installment in the Jak and Daxter series, Jak 3was contested with Jak II to be the best game in the series. Jak 3 will be released soon on PlayStation 4 as a PlayStation 2 classic.

Naughty Dog didn’t really make any ambitious changes from the series, and was very similar to Jak II. The setting still takes place in Haven City, but the city is now a disaster. The only ambitious changes in Jak 3 is there’s a new city to visit called “Spargus City,” and the dune buggies.

Most importantly, the game added dune buggies, where you will have access to multiple buggies that all have their own unique feature. When doing missions in the wasteland, you use these buggies to fight off crooks, collect artifacts, and kill dinosaur-like metal heads.

Anyone who played Jak II will feel like that they’re at home. The action-packed gameplay is practically identical, Jak still uses the same simplistic moves, and you still got the same four guns. Each gun now has two additional upgrades that remarkably refine their functions.

Also, Jak still has his dark power abilities. This time, monks granted him with light power abilities that are not used to fight enemies. Instead, the light abilities are used to heal Jak, slow down time, fly around, and have a personal shield.

The gameplay is considered one of best, if not the best in the series. The objective of this story is very similar to Jak II. You’re supposed to save the city again, but this time, you’re also saving the whole entire world.

In the introduction, Jak and Daxter are being banished to the wasteland after everyone in Haven City blamed them for the mass destruction and attacks that are happening to the city, but it’s not their fault. After Jak defeated the Metal Head leader in Jak II, most of the Metal Heads died out, except for the strongest ones. The strongest ones repopulated and unleashed various attacks on Haven City.

Throughout the story, you will quickly realize that it’s not just the Metal Heads that are trying to terminate all existence, but it’s also KG Death Bots and the Dark Makers.

KG Death Bots were created by Errol. Who once was the commander of the krimzon guard force, and now, he transformed himself into a robotic-like human, to help destroy everything.

The Dark Makers are a dark race of ancient, corrupted Precursors. The Dark Makers are known for destroying other planets, and Errol talked to them to get help diminishing the planet by using dark eco and destroying the remaining Precursors (metal human-like statues that are considered to be the most powerful beings in the universe and the founders of the universe).

Aside from the gameplay, the graphics look more pleasing. After Jak II, Naughty Dog did a better job using different variety of color. There still might be a lot of dull colors, but there’s a decent amount of areas in the world that have bright colors that makes the graphics look not so depressing. Just like the other two games, Jak 3’s resolution was great, and there’s no sign of the pixelated textures.

Jak 3’s dialogue is the best in the series. The dialogue has a lot more jokes, sarcasm, and mild language. The dialogue will keep you entertained while watching cut scenes because of what the characters say and the feelings you might have for them.

If you’re looking for a lot of entertaining action, Jak 3 will fulfill your needs. This game is definitely recommended if you have a PlayStation 4 since the game is exclusive to PlayStation.
