Fear the “T”: Golden Eagles rout Penns Valley, 34-6

Hunter throws touchdown #20; Weaver goes over 1000 yards

After a nail-biting 21-20 victory last week of Central Mountain, a 34-6 romp of Penns Valley was a sight for sore eyes from Tyrone Head Coach Jason Wilson’s perspective.

“Even though we won last week, we took a step in the wrong direction,” said Wilson, “We had a good week of practice and we executed on the field. We’re definitely making strides at being a better football team.”

The Golden Eagles dominated the Rams from the outset on both sides of the football. Quarterback Drew Hunter and Cullen Raftery led the offensive attack, connecting for two scores in the first half. In the process, Hunter threw his 20th touchdown pass of the season and joined Stevie Franco as the only quarterbacks to do so in school history.

Hunter was very appreciative after the final whistle, “It’s an amazing feeling, considering all the great quarterbacks that have played here before me at Tyrone. All the credit goes to my offensive line and excellent wide receivers.”

Tailback Gary Weaver caught his first touchdown pass of the year in addition to two more touchdowns on the ground. Weaver leads the team with 16 total touchdowns and just reached the 1,000 yard rushing mark after Friday night’s game.

Tyrone’s defense played one of their best games to this point in the season. Although the Rams were able to mount several promising drives into Golden Eagle territory, they were unable to finish drives and produce any points in the first half.

Parker Mitchell grabbed his third interception of the year. Penns Valley was limited to under 250 yards of offense against a Tyrone defense that refused to break. The Ram’s lone score came against the second string defense in the 4th quarter.

Playoff seeding will be on the line for the Golden Eagles as they face off against Chestnut Ridge on Senior Night.
