Eagles Fly Over Trojans

Tyrone improved to 1-1 with a 35-0 shutout victory

After a heartbreaking loss to the Clearfield Bison last week, the Golden Eagles entered Friday’s home opener against Johnstown with a chip on their shoulder. Despite a slow start, Tyrone delivered in the final three quarters for a 35-0 win.

The running back tandem of senior Brady Ronan and junior Seth Hoover controlled time of possession for the Golden Eagles, combining for 192 yards rushing: Ronan with 119 and Hoover with 73.

Ronan credited his teammates for his 100-yard rushing performance.

“The O-line made my job easy, making holes on every possession,” said Ronan.

Johnstown stopped Tyrone on their first drive after a fumble but the Eagles quickly recovered on their next possession with a 5-yard rushing touchdown by Brady Ronan.

After that touchdown, the Eagle’s offense pounded the ball for three quarters, racking up 400 yards in total offense. The Tyrone defense front was no match for Johnstown, who despite their early success was held to less than 150 yards in total offense.

After a Tyrone stop. Seth Hoover reeled in another score with 2:46 left in the second quarter, to make it 14-0.

After another defense stop, quarterback Ashton Walk rushed in the endzone to add another 6 to the board. Senior kicker Rocky Romani was five for five on PATs.

Senior Brady Ronan had an impressive night, adding another touchdown to his resume and putting the score to 28-0.

Senior Andrew Weaver put the nail in the coffin late in the third quarter; scoring on a 33-yard touchdown reception. Walk put the ball on the money and allowed Andrew Weaver to catch the ball in stride on a fade route.

Weaver also tallied two sacks on defense, including a strip sack. Austin Lucas led the team in tackles and Eli Woomer snagged a deep ball out of the air for an Eagles interception early in the second quarter.

“The defense was able to shut out a pretty athletic team. This shows us we can stop anyone,” said Weaver.

The Eagles are on the road this week at Central.  Kickoff is at 7 pm.
