Tyrone suffered a disappointing buzzer-beater loss to Richland on Friday, January 16.
The Eagles had a slow start in the first quarter, putting Riochland up by 12, 24-12. The Eagles were not pleased, and slowly battled back, cutting the Rams’ lead to just two points, 33-31, by the end of the second quarter.
Both teams went back and forth in the second half, and with under two minutes remaining and a 61-59 lead, Tyrone tried to stall and slow the game down.
Richland responded by putting Tyrone senior Eli Woomer on the free-throw line with a chance to ice the game.
Unfortunately, Woomer missed both free throws, giving the Rams 4.1 seconds left on the clock.
The Rams inbounded the ball at half court and converted to a last-second buzzer beater over Mason Emigh, sending the Eagles home on a quiet bus.
Despite the misses at the free-throw line, Woomer was still Tyrone’s leading scorer with 29 points.
Tyrone will look to get back in the win column against Bellefonte on Wednesday, January 21.
