After an exciting win in the Backyard Brawl scrimmage game against Bellwood, Tyrone opened the regular season with a close 6-3, 6-4 loss to visiting Mount Union.
In both matches, Tyrone scored the first point but could not finish out either match.
“Even though we lost, we battled back and forth in both matches, and the teams were very close to winning,” Tyrone coach Sarah Latchford said.
In the first game, Tyrone’s team Black got out to a 3-0 advantage before surrendering six straight points, losing by a score of 6-3.
Tyrone then swapped teams, and team Orange came on the court for match two.
In the second game, Tyrone got out to an early 1-0 lead, but Mount Union built a 5-1 lead before Tyrone battled back into the game. The score was 5-4 in favor of Mount Union heading into the final rolls.
When Tyrone got down to their final roller, freshman Jonathan Harbst rolled a near-perfect ball, but after review, the judge determined that it was just inches short of tying the game.
“One of the things the team can do better is feel the court and environment in pregame practice to hopefully get better rolls,” said Tyrone coach Shannon Davis.
The team will be at home this Thursday for Senior Night against Tussy Mountain.
