Another Friday, Another Loss For Tyrone Football

The Golden Eagles were blown out by Bellefonte 49-14 for their fourth loss of the season

Tyrone football hasn’t seen a season like this in ages, Friday night marked Tyrone’s fourth loss of the season after a 49-14 blowout loss to the Bellefonte Red Raiders. With five games left in the season and some tough teams still on the schedule, this season has potential of being the worst for Tyrone Football in over 20 years.

The thrashing began early after Bellefonte started the game with three consecutive touchdowns in the first quarter and one in the second putting them up 28-0 early. Tyrone didn’t even have a good scoring opportunity until the end of the half when Denver Light tossed a 20-yard pass to Jamal Hicks as time expired. Although the Red Raiders were up by 28-7, this touchdown gave Tyrone hope of coming back in the second half. The Golden Eagles were able to put up 42 in the first half of the game last week so 21 points to comeback was definitely not impossible.

“That touchdown at the end of the half really got the team hyped back up and ready come out strong in the second half” said Senior Captain Kyle Plummer.

It really crushed us to give up another TD right at the beginning of the half,” said Plummer. “Especially since it was a pick-six.

After receiving the second half kick off Tyrone only ran three plays before Bellefonte intercepted a Denver Light pass and took it back 45-yards for a pick six touchdown. After that moment, Tyrone’s spirit was crushed and the game was virtually over.  Bellefonte racked up 460 total yards of offense against the Golden Eagle defense. Big plays can kill the spirit of a team and the best teams are the teams that can convert on those big plays but also prevent them. The Bellefonte offense managed to score a TD on three different plays that were all over 40-yards long.

Tyrone’s only other score came in the middle of the fourth quarter when Junior tailback Zac Albright took a carry 14-yards for a touchdown.

“It really crushed us to give up another TD right at the beginning of the half,” said Plummer. “Especially since it was a pick-six.”

Tyrone faces Bald Eagle at home looking to add to the win column and right the ship before it’s too late.
