Tyrone senior Janice Gilliland turned years of preparation into a championship moment at the 2026 Pennsylvania Farm Show, earning Grand Champion Market Goat with her 107-pound market goat, Future.

A member of the Tyrone Area FFA Chapter, Gilliland raised and developed both a market lamb and market goat for the show, spending months on daily care, conditioning, and training to get Future ring-ready.

“The highlight of my year was being named Grand Champion,” Gilliland said. “I am proud of how far I have come since I started showing, and I am excited to see where I am heading with my future in livestock and agriculture.”

The goat, affectionately dubbed “The Hammer” by Gilliland’s peers, was praised by Farm Show judge Nate Brookshire, who described him as “an absolute gangster from the side,” emphasizing both the goat’s quality and Gilliland’s exceptional skills.

“I am proud of how far I have come since I started showing, and I am excited to see where I am heading with my future in livestock and agriculture,” Gilliland said.

Gilliland has done, and continues to do, an outstanding job with her animals. She has earned more awards, ribbons, banners, and trophies for her accomplishments in agriculture at age 17 than many who have spent decades showing animals.

These accomplishments are the result of hours of dedication to her livestock and an immeasurable amount of effort behind the scenes. She has consistently demonstrated commitment, responsibility, and passion in caring for and developing her animals.

Gilliland recognized the potential in Future early on and invested additional time and effort into his development.

Her success reflects her determination and passion for agriculture, and the Tyrone Area FFA Chapter is incredibly proud to call her one of its members.
