The Tyrone Unified Bocce team lost to Tussey Mountain at home on Thursday, January 15.
Tyrone Black lost 11-1 in the first match, and Tyrone Orange lost 8-7 in the second
Tyrone Black could not get anything going in their matchup, and Tussy Mountain just kept piling up points.
“This match did not go well for our team,” said Cooper Spicer, “The team needs to lock in at practice. If we can do that, we will be able to win our next games.”
Tyrone Orange and Tussy Mountain went back and forth all game, with Tyrone keeping a 7-6 lead going into the final rolls.
They just needed to keep Tussy from scoring, but Tussey put up some great rolls and scored two points to win the match.
“The game went really well, the team just needs practice to be able to win the next games,” said Tyrone player Aubry Biter.
It was also Senior Night, and Tyrone honored three graduating seniors: Grace Naylor, Hayden Wood, and Piper Myers.
“Our seniors make a huge impact by the way they communicate with the team and how they communicate and take a leadership role on the team,” Tyrone Coach Shannon Davis said.
Naylor, in her first season on the bocce team, joined because bocce is a place where everyone is included and feels a sense of belonging.
Her favorite memory was beating Bellwood in the Backyard Brawl. After high School, Naylor plans to go to college and study to become an early childhood/elementary teacher. She is also a member of NHS, Prom Committee, softball, and All-Eagles.
Wood, in her first and only season, joined because she thought it looked like a fun sport that she could play in her senior year.
Her favorite memory of the season so far is Beating Bellwood in the Backyard Brawl. After High school, Woodplans to attend college for Cosmetology, and she is a member of the All Eagles Club, as well as participating in Bocce Ball.
Myers is in her third year of Bocce. She joined the team because it was new and sounded like a fun sport.
Her favorite memory was when Tyrone won its first match. After high school, Myers plans to attend Penn State Altoona major in psychology. She also participated in soccer, All Eagles, Pops Extension, Drama Club, and the Prom Committee.
“All of our seniors are great young women who work hard on and off the Bocce court. Piper, you will be missed,” Tyrone Coach Kate Coltenbaugh said.
Bocce will have its first road game at Huntingdon on January 26 at 3:30 P.M.
