Student Spotlight: Pianist Grayson Putt

Junior Grayson Putt has been playing piano since he was five years old.  He began by taking lessons but for the past eight years he has been teaching himself to play.  The results of all that hard work are obvious to anyone fortunate enough to hear him play.

“Grayson is a very talented young man with exceptional skills,” said Tyrone Choral teacher Laura Harris, “I’ve watched his talent grow from year to year and have always been very impressed by his practice skills and the level of humility that he exhibits to his musical abilities.”

Grayson practices his piano pieces almost every day and works on them until he gets them just right. If he is learning a new song, he usually practices from one to two hours a day.

“I enjoy playing for anyone who wants to listen,” said Putt, “I love being able to play for people and then seeing the looks on their faces knowing they enjoyed it.”

Grayson’s mother Kristi said her favorite song that Grayson’s plays is Loretta and Desiree’s Boquet.

“I love how the music fills our home. It’s so relaxing,” said Kristi.

One of his favorite pieces is Thanksgiving by George Winston.

He is currently working on Against the Tide by Greg Maroney, which is one of his favorite composers.

Other pieces he has played are Breathe and Elementals by Greg Maroney.

Putt also plays at churches for Sunday services and in competitions.

Putt will be preforming  a rendition of God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman at the Christmas concert this December.
