The Tyrone Golden Eagles treated a crowded senior night gym to a thrilling win against rival Bellwood Antis on Monday evening, Feburary 4.

Two out of the four Tyrone seniors had a win in the match, which came down to the last bout.

“I just want to thank all of the students, staff and fans that came out to support our guys on senior night and I hope to see them all back for more home matches,” said Tyrone Head Coach Terry Tate.

Tyrone was down by twelve points early in the match, but the Eagles rally began at the 170 lb weight class.

At 170, sophomore Tommy Hicks was the first to get Tyrone back into pace. Hicks was up 9-3 in the first period, 15-7 in the second period, and took the win in the third with a pin, 1:40 seconds early.

“Their original 170 pounder bumped down so he didn’t have to wrestle me, either way the team would have still got the dub,” said Hicks.

Senior Aric Reader wrestled next and finished the first period winning 16-6 and pinned his opponent :43 seconds before the end of the second period.

Senior Braeden Neveling-Ray had an equal start to the match, no one scored in the first period, and he pinned his opponent :22 seconds into the second period.

Tyrone also got a pins from Ashton Sipes at 113 and Mason Walls at 126.

In the final bout of the evening, sophomore Hunter Walk needed a win to seal the match for the Eagles.  Walk did not disappoint the senior night crowd, pinning his opponent in :29 seconds and ending the match in favor of the Golden Eagles, 42-36.

“Hunter Walk went out with the match on the line and got the win. He’s a gamer, he loves to compete and was happy when we drew his weight to be last,”said Tate.
