Tyrone’s FFA adviser is Mrs. Tiffany Hoy.  Mrs. Hoy is extremely dedicated and enthusiastic about her students and FFA.  To many of her students, she is known as “Mom.”

“She has really inspired me to push myself,” said sophomore Jaylon Beck,  “I am not a big fan of public speaking, who is? Although I do not like it and I feel like I am having a panic attack when I do it, I kind of like it at the same time now. I have learned how to deal with it and it made me more confident in not caring what people think.”

This is just one example of the things Hoy teaches her students.

Hoy Bean and Murtle

Tiffany Hoy – Adviser

Are you and were you ever anxious about public speaking?

“Yes, my Ag teacher and English teacher volunteered me to present one of my papers for competition two days before the event. That was my first experience. I’m glad they did it.  It truly changed my life.”

What are some techniques you use for teaching how to speak in public?
“Children stories are my favorite -Allowing students to turn themselves into characters from a favorite book is a joy. The magic box where students pull out a random object and speak on the object in relations to a specific topic for a set amount of time keeps students thinking.”

Out of all the students who you have pushed into public speaking, who do you think improved the most? Name a few.
“Every student makes their own improvements, and pinning down specific students would be difficult! If I had to say one group is would be the parliamentary procedure team. This not only requires individual skills, but also awareness of what and how the team is working together while speaking.

Why did you chose to teach at Tyrone?
“It started out as a challenge to save the program, but within three months it became my passion to teach at the secondary level again. It is an honor to teach at Tyrone Area School District and to work with amazing students and a supportive community.”
