Navigating the transition from middle school to high school

Every student goes through the transition from middle school to high school.   For some this change is easy and has no effect on them but for others, it is one of the most difficult and confusing time of their lives.

After speaking with a few ninth grade students, many of whom realized that the transition was challenging, they explained how they figured out a routine and made it manageable.

Kasey Engle, a new student from Bellwood, says she enjoys high school “because you have more freedom to do things.”

On the other hand, Toni Burns, another fellow freshman, states that “I have been having difficulty adjusting to my classes and I wish there were more time in-between.”

I have also found that this adjustment between classes was believed to be the most difficult transition to freshman.

“The first day was challenging because I didn’t know anybody, but I made friends throughout the week,” said Haley Butina, another new student to Tyrone.

All in all, this transition from middle school to high school may be a difficult adjustment at first but with the right social skills and a good sense of navigation through the halls, your first year of high school can be both exciting and memorable.
