Staff Editorial: TAHS Volleyball Tournament was an All-Around Win
The time between Christmas and Easter is the hardest stretch of the school year, so the student intramural volleyball tournament held last Thursday was a much-appreciated break from the normal routine, and an opportunity for students to focus their energy on a fun community-building activity.
The event was the idea of physical education teacher Lindsey Kanuch and was planned with the help of the Phys. Ed. Department.
It was originally scheduled for the day before Christmas break, but in a major disappointment to many students, it had to be canceled due to a snow day.
Most students assumed that the tournament would not happen at all, but thanks to the hard work and persistence of Kanuch and the leadership of high school Principal Chad Packer, it was rescheduled for the day before mid-winter break.
On the day of the tournament, the high school and middle school gyms were packed with students ready to enjoy a fun and relaxing day.
Students playing in the tournament were given permission to go to the gym for their games and teachers were allowed to bring their classes to watch all the action.
Because of the enthusiasm of the students, the gym was buzzing with excitement. You could tell that the students involved were determined to make it to the final round. The day was very enjoyable as both a participant and a spectator.
The Eagle Eye would like to thank Mrs. Kanuch for organizing the event, Mr. Packer for supporting it and allowing it to be rescheduled, Mr. Soellner and Mr. Elder for being the head referees, Mr. Owens, Mr. Coleman, Mr. Shedd, Ms. Markel, Mrs. Cannistraci, and Mrs. Miksich for also serving as referees, Mr. Rhoades for helping to set up the gym and being the game announcer, Mr. Feather and Mr. Cammarata for providing video coverage, and all of the other teachers who brought their classes to the gym.
The tournament was a great way to boost student morale and get them involved in the school community. We hope to see it become a tradition for years to come!
