Tyrone sophomore Landon Hamer drove in the winning run with a walk-off single against visiting Hollidaysburg on April 17. The Eagles won 3-2.

The seventh inning could have been out of a movie for Tyrone.

The Golden Eagles held Hollidaysburg in the top of the inning to keep the game tied. Then in the bottom of the inning, sophomore Gayge Miller walked to lead off the inning, followed by a bunt single by Zac LeGars.

Hollidaysburg then decided to walk Tyrone senior Ross Gampe, choosing to load the bases and avoid facing Tyrone’s 6’5’’ power hitter.

That brought Tyrone’s sophomore catcher Landon Hamer to the plate. Hamer already had an RBI hit earlier in the game and did not disappoint this time. Hamer drove a shot to right field pushing the winning run to the plate, on an exciting walk-off single.

Tyrone’s AJ Coleman got the start and allowed four hits and two runs through 4.1 innings. He struggled with command sometimes, however, slipping behind the count, then walking four batters.

His defense was able to work him out of situations and played solid with only three errors in the game.

Landon Postreich came on in relief and shut down the Golden Tiger offense for the rest of the game.

Hollidaysburg started Carson Kensinger, a hard-throwing lefty, who boasts a 2.01 career ERA He proved to be a problem for Tyrone, striking out nine in five innings, and only allowing three hits.

Kensinger walked four hitters as well, but Tyrone capitalized better on these opportunities, still able to score two runs in the fifth, ending Kensinger’s day.

With the win, Tyrone advanced to 4-5 on the season.
