NameJaylon Beck

Grade12

Placement: Gardner’s Candies Ice Cream Parlor

Accomplishments:

Beck is currently a senior at Tyrone Area High School and has been a member of the Tyrone Area FFA Chapter for the past four years.  She is the daughter of Denise Beck.

Beck received her Greenhand degree in 2015, which is the first FFA chapter degree at the high school level.  In 2016, she received her second chapter level degree, the Chapter FFA Degree.  To accomplish any FFA Degree, a student must be enrolled in agricultural education courses and maintain a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE).  Members must also serve on committees, participate in local, state and national activities, and show growth over the years.

Beck’s current Keystone FFA degree goals were met by working at Gardner’s Candies Ice Cream Parlor in Tyrone. She started in 2016 and thought she would be able to make new friends and money. Beck has learned a lot by working at Gardner’s, running the cash register, and increasing her time of cleaning up at closing time. While working at the ice cream parlor does not relate to her future career, but the money she’s earned will help her pay for her college tuition.

According to Beck, not only does the job teach her about communication skills, but it also raised her awareness of the importance of responsibly and serving your customers.

She also served at the Tyrone Area FFA Chapter Reporter in 2016, which taught her to write different articles on social media, and her teacher taught her to make things for interesting and how to lay everything out correctly.

Beck has also rescued several horses and has provided them with adequate housing, exercise, and nutrition for years.

In order to receive the highest State FFA Degree a student must be enrolled as an FFA member for the past 24 months, be a senior or recent graduate, complete two years of Ag courses, over 300 hours in a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) placement (paid or unpaid), participate in 10 FFA chapter activities and five FFA activities above the chapter level, complete 25 hours of community services, include one photo of their SAE program and explain the skills learned, and submit an application.
