Eagle Scout Project to benefit the Tyrone Area High School

This area will soon look a lot better thanks to TAHS senior Will Sessamen.

The front entrance of the Tyrone Area High School is about to get a much needed makeover.

Gone will be the dirty mulch and barren planters that are now the first thing that people see when they enter the high school.

In its place will be mulch beds with marble wall, an elevated flower bed planter, and new signage to welcome students and visitors to the high school.

It will make a huge difference

— Mr. Tom Yoder, HS Principal

Tyrone senior William Sessamen plans to improve the two mulch beds at both front entrances of the high school as his Eagle Scout Project.

“My project will be helpful to the high school because it will show a form of neatness and organization to the front entranceways to the high school that has been sorely missing,” says Sessamen.

To get his project approved, Sessamen first had to get approval from the Boy Scout’s Eagle Board.

He also had to get approval from Mr. Thomas Yoder, the high school principal and he had to make a presentation to the TASD School Board and gain their approval before moving forward with the project.

Mr. Yoder says that it has been a big problem to try to do something with the beds and that it is hard to get plants to grow because of the poor soil.

“It will make a huge difference,” said Yoder.

Mr. Cummins McNitt, the Scout Board committee chairperson, approved Sessamen’s project, along with his scout master.

From this project and experience, Sessamen says he’ll learn how to be a leader of a project and to better himself for the future.

He’ll raise the money he needs by fundraising.

Sessamen plans to hold a chicken dinner, but he still needs to get more information.  He is accepting donations and will hold additional fundraisers so he can purchase all materials necessary for construction.

If you have questions about the project or would like to make a donation, contact Will Sessamen at 12893 South Eagle Valley Rd. Tyrone, PA 16686 or call (814) 505-7524.
