Banned from the Back – A Wrong Approach to Gun Control

If you can’t get in the front door, try the back. That’s the new approach for gun control. If you can’t ban the guns, ban the ammo that goes in them. This idea is currently being tried out by the anti-gunners to kill the popularity of one of america’s favorite calibers: 223/5.56.

There’s  been a history of gun control in the U.S since the early nineteen hundreds. They began with fully-automatic weapons bans during the prohibition years with moderate effect. Recently, they have had failed attempts at their  high capacity magazines and automatic weapons bans. These have been  popular after mass shootings. Now, Obama, the ATF, and anti-gunners are trying to ride the new wave of cop-related violence that occurred  in Ferguson, Missouri and New York. Their new proposal is to ban the popular M885, green tip, ammo as “armor piercing” and being able to be fired in an easily concealable weapon. They followed by saying it’s a “common sense” move that would be saving police officers’ lives.

Their are so many things wrong about this that it’s ridiculous. Nothing in their statements are “common sense”.

First of all, Police agencies haven’t been able to document where easily concealable weapons and M885 ammo have been armour piercing. Second, easily concealed weapons referred to ar-15 pistols. These are new and not made by many manufacturers. Due to their high price, low availability and cumbersome design, they aren’t really a high threat weapon . Now, they want to take away “armour-piercing ammo to save cops”? I don’t think it will make much of a difference at all. Banning one popular round won’t be a magic fix. You would have to stop all ammo and component production in the US to make a dent. If this passes Congress, what will come next?

Currently, Congress has struck the proposal down. But since Obama is the head of this, we now he has been known to ignore Congress and pass an executive order. So this could still get passed. I think this has nothing to do with saving cops at all. Actually, I think it’s another try for gun control. It has nothing to do with saving anybody. Actually, those in support of all the gun control are too ignorant to realize it won’t do anything to help. They hurt more than they help.

Since this proposal, 223/5.56 ammo has sold like we’re going to war. This shows that the people fear the government, and the government fears the people. Thomas Jefferson said “When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty.” Right now, we are in a struggle between the two. And if the government and anti-gunners think that just banning everything that goes bang will save lives, their thinking is wrong. The cities with the highest crime rates have the strictest gun laws. Do you see a correlation? And, I never could see why women would call for gun control. A firearm is the only thing that could give a small-statured women a good chance of survival against a large man meaning to do harm.

There are real fixes to these serious problems. Banning the ammo, the rifles or any of it isn’t really the answer. Ar-15s and modern sporting rifles are here to stay. And in the hands of law abiding citizens are used for protection, recreational shooting and hunting. We are not the ones that need to be penalized. The ones that need to be penalized are the twisted people committing the crimes and those who let them get away with it.
