Fourteen Golden Eagle runners have been busy preparing for their most competitive meet of the season, the District 6 Championship, this Saturday at Reedsville.
This will likely be the final race of the season for the Tyrone runners unless an individual qualifies for states.
Only one team and the top five individuals in each division advance to the state meet, and because every course is different, runners can’t qualify based on time alone.
The Golden Eagles compete in the AA division, which features some of the toughest programs in the region, including Central Cambria, Forest Hills, and Bellefonte. District 6 is widely regarded as one of the most challenging districts in Pennsylvania, making the competition especially fierce.
Although it will be difficult for any Tyrone runners to reach states this year, the team is determined to give its best performance.
The course at Reedsville is mostly flat, fast, and all on grass, with no major hills; a setup that could help the team achieve more personal records. The Golden Eagles are also familiar with the course, having competed there earlier this season at the Big Valley Invitational.
“I’m very excited for the district meet. This is what everyone on the team has worked so hard for all season,” said Head Coach Tammy Wills. “After all the great performances and PRs at the Laurel Highlands Championship meet last week, I think we are exactly where we need to be going into Saturday.”
With the season’s biggest race ahead, both the boys’ and girls’ teams are ready to give their all on the district stage.
