Tyrone Swimming Splits Tri-Meet vs. Huntingdon and Somerset

Bellwood Senior Spencer Dunklebarger in the 100 meter Breaststroke

Tyrone Swimming split a meet against Huntingdon and Somerset on Wednesday, December 13th, 2023.

Overall Tyrone had a great performance against both schools. The boy’s team continued their win streak, keeping their record perfect at 3-0.

The girl’s team lost against both teams, but there were some good individual performances by Tyrone swimmers.

The meet was held at Juniata College, so the athletes were racing in a collegiate-length meter pool.  As a result, times were slower than usual.

Bishop Guilfoyle junior Isaac Yeskey swam a 28.12 in his 50-meter freestyle which placed him first overall, and a 1:12.74 in his 100-meter back which also placed him first overall.

Yeskey was also part of the 400-meter relay team (Gallagher, Lucas Bonsell, Yeskey, Dunklebarger) which placed first overall with 4:20.56.

Bellwood’s senior Spencer Dunklebarger took first in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 59.00 and in the 100-meter breaststroke swimming a 1:19.95.

Tyrone’s 200-meter freestyle relay team (Goodman, Smearman, Romani, Miller) placed second with a time of 2:08.08

Tyrone sophomore Dylan Eckenrode placed 2nd against Somerset and 3rd against Huntingdon in the 200-meter IM with a time of 3:00.03. Lucas Bonsell, another sophomore, took 2nd overall in the 100-meter back with a time of 1:17.02. Bellwood junior, Cameron Gallagher also placed 2nd in the 200 freestyle (2:37.91)

The girls had two first-place finishers. Bellwood’s senior, Evalyna Aiken, placed 1st against Huntington and 2nd against Somerset in the girls 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:27.19. Extending her second place spot, she placed 2nd overall in the girl’s 400 freestyle with a time of 5:51.92.

Aiken shared the spotlight with Tyrone sophomore Sophia Cowher who placed 1st against Huntingdon and 2nd against Somerset in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:42.76

Another standout is Tyrone sophomore, Grace Corl, who placed 2nd overall in the girl’s 50-meter freestyle with a time of 34.81—Corl’s time of 1:20.42 also placed her 2nd against Somerset and 3rd against Huntington in the girls 100-meter freestyle.

The girls 200 freestyle relay team also took 2nd place against both teams with a time of 2:22.90.

For the Eagle Eye, Rocky mainly covers sports stories such as soccer and track (which isn’t too hard considering he competes in both), but occasionally he’ll get creative and think of his own story idea separate from sports. Outside the classroom, he enjoys playing soccer, watching movies, and hanging out with friends and family. Speaking of soccer, Rocky is a player on the Tyrone Boys Varsity Soccer Team where he hopes to pursue his dream of advancing to the next level. His goal is to play collegiate-level college soccer, but he also has to take kicking into consideration as well. Some goals that Rocky has for his senior year are: scoring 15-20 goals this soccer season, not missing a single PAT (point after touchdown) for the football team, hitting a couple of field goals, placing at track invitationals, and keeping straight A’s.
