Tyrone Swim Teams Sweep Penns Valley

The Tyrone girls swim team improved to 3-0 by defeating Penns Valley 99-67 on December 10th. The boys also beat the Rams 69-20 to improve to 2-1 on the season.

The girls were led by double winner junior Madison Coleman in the 50 free (25.92) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:09.11).  For the boys, senior Matt Lenze took first in the 200 freestyle (2:12.53) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:13.51).

“The team swam well this meet. This was our third meet in a row and we pushed through,” said Tyrone sophomore Ellie Oakes.

The girl’s team won two of the three relays including the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. 

Senior Fiona McConnell won the 200 free (2:15.14) and came in second in the 100 yard breaststroke. Senior Mae Decker placed second in both the 100 yard backstroke (1:08.00) and the 100 free (1:01.06). Sarah E. Hoover placed second in the 200 yard IM (2:28.33) and third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:17.17). 

The boy’s team won both of the relays they swam including the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

“The whole team swam well and we are improving our times each meet,” said senior Keegan Raabe.

Junior Hunter Gregg placed first in the 50 yard freestyle (27.45) and second in the 500 yard freestyle (6:21.58). Raabe place first in the 100 yard freestyle (1:05.25) and second in the 200 yard free (2:38.15). Junior Collin Yaudes placed second in both the 50 yard free (27.64) and 100 yard breaststroke. (1:18.89). Junior Aden McCracken placed first in the 100 yard butterfly (1:19.59).

“I’m really proud of my team and how far they have come. The boys are doing great for being such a small team. The small size allows us to push each other to our limits and bond in a way larger teams struggle to do. Wouldn’t trade it for anything,” said junior Hunter Gregg.

The team’s next meet is on December 17th against Clearfield at home at 6 pm.
