This year the Keystone testing will replace the PSSA tests for high school. The Keystone Exams will be taken in Algebra 1, English 10 and Biology. They will be held May 13th to May 24th.
The Keystone Exams is now a graduation requirement from the Pennsylvania State Board of Education.
Freshman English teacher, Ms. Leah Dobrowolsky is a proctor for the students of the Keystone Exam here at Tyrone Area School District. Teachers are not allowed to proctor exams to students they have in class.
Dobrowolsky explained that being a proctor is “like enforcing the rules.”
Ron Wilson, science teacher at Tyrone, states, “In theory [the Keystones] are a good idea. In science it’s better than the PSSAs the program is replacing.”
Tessa Osterhout, freshman at Tyrone, who will be taking the math Keystone Exam, is confident in herself. Osterhout also stated “although I have prepared myself for the test I am still nervous about doing well, but who isn’t?”
As information about the Keystone Exams was gathered, Baylee DelBaggio, freshman at Tyrone Area School District, shared that she thought the Keystone Exams were a good idea for graduation.
“Keystone Exams show if the students have displayed if they deserve a diploma,” expressed DelBaggio, TAHS freshman.
According to Mr. Thomas Yoder, TAHS principal, “as always, we are appreciative of your support and are very proud of our students’ willingness to put forth their best efforts.”
